NFC GOOGLE REVIEW CARDS

How NFC Google Review Cards Work

Learn what happens when a customer taps an NFC Google Review Card, which phones support it, how the card is programmed, and where local businesses can use one.

An NFC Google Review Card is a physical tap-to-review tool that opens a business's Google review page on a compatible smartphone.

Instead of asking a customer to search for the business later, the card creates a short path from the in-person experience to the correct review page.

What is an NFC Google Review Card?

An NFC Google Review Card contains a small Near Field Communication chip. The chip is programmed with a web destination, such as a direct Google review link.

When a compatible phone is brought close to the NFC area, the phone detects the link and offers to open it. The card does not write a review, choose a star rating, or submit anything for the customer.

TapRepute uses NFC inside an acrylic Google Review Card and countertop review stand that is programmed for the business before shipping.

How does a Google Review tap card work?

The customer journey is simple:

1. TapThe customer holds an NFC-compatible phone near the card.
2. OpenThe phone detects the programmed review link and opens the Google review page.
3. ReviewThe customer chooses their own rating and writes their own feedback.
4. SubmitThe review is submitted through Google's normal review flow.

The purpose of the card is to reduce the number of steps between a customer deciding to leave feedback and reaching the correct page.

Do customers need an app?

No separate TapRepute app is required. Modern NFC-compatible phones can read NFC tags using functionality built into the device.

Phone behavior can vary by model, settings, case thickness, and where the NFC antenna is located. If a tap does not register immediately, moving the phone slowly around the NFC area can help.

Do NFC Google Review Cards work with iPhone and Android?

Modern NFC-enabled iPhone and Android devices can generally interact with NFC tags. Older phones may have limited NFC support, and some Android devices may require NFC to be enabled in settings.

For an in-person business, it is a good idea to test the card on several different phones before placing it at the counter, front desk, or table.

Does TapRepute use a QR code?

No. TapRepute's current Google Review Card is NFC tap-only. There is no QR code printed on the card.

That keeps the front of the product visually clean and makes the interaction centered around a tap. Businesses that also want a QR code can use a separate QR code on printed materials, receipts, menus, or other marketing pieces.

If you are comparing the two technologies, read our NFC vs QR code review sign guide.

How is an NFC Google Review Card programmed?

An NFC tag can store or redirect to a web link. For Google reviews, the useful destination is the business's direct review page rather than a generic search result.

With TapRepute, the card is programmed and tested for the business before it ships. That means the owner does not need to learn NFC-writing software just to start using the product.

Where should you place a Google Review Card?

The best placement is somewhere customers naturally pause while the experience is still fresh. The card should be visible, easy to reach, and close enough for a customer to tap a phone against it.

RestaurantsHost stand, checkout, pickup counter, or table.
Barbershops & salonsFront desk, service station, or payment area.
Dentists & clinicsReception, checkout desk, or waiting area.
Retail & officesRegister, reception desk, or front counter.

Does tapping the card automatically leave a review?

No. NFC only helps the customer reach the review page. The customer remains in control of whether to leave a review, which rating to choose, what to write, and whether to submit it.

That distinction matters. A review card should make genuine feedback easier to leave, not manufacture ratings.

Can an NFC card guarantee more Google reviews?

No physical review tool can guarantee that every customer will leave feedback. The card removes steps from the process, but results still depend on customer volume, staff habits, placement, the customer experience, and whether customers choose to review the business.

NFC Google Review Card vs a normal review sign

A normal printed sign can remind customers to leave a review, but the customer may still need to search for the business manually. An NFC card can pair the reminder with the direct action: tap the card and open the intended page.

That makes tap-to-review technology most useful where the customer is physically close to the sign.
